Ingredients
- 1.5 pounds beef belly, cut into 1-inch pieces
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 thumb-sized piece of ginger, peeled and sliced
- ¼ cup light soy sauce
- ¼ cup dark soy sauce
- ⅓ cup apple vinegar
- ¼ cup hoisin sauce
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1 cup water
- Garnish: chopped green onions and sesame seeds
Instructions
- Heat vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sear the beef belly pieces until browned on all sides (about 5–7 minutes). Remove from the pan and set aside.
- In the same pan, sauté minced garlic and sliced ginger for 1–2 minutes until fragrant.
- Return the seared beef belly to the pan, adding light soy sauce, dark soy sauce, apple vinegar, hoisin sauce, brown sugar, and water. Stir well to coat the beef.
- Bring to a boil, then reduce heat to low. Simmer uncovered for 1 to 1½ hours until the beef is tender and the sauce thickens into a sticky glaze.
- Taste and adjust seasoning if needed before serving hot, garnished with chopped green onions and sesame seeds.
