  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup heavy cream
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, melt the butter and mix in brown sugar, heavy cream, vanilla extract, and salt until smooth. Let it cool slightly.
  3. Arrange pecan halves in the bottom of the prepared pan and pour the caramel mixture over them.
  4. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
  5. Cream softened butter and granulated sugar in another bowl until fluffy, then add eggs one at a time along with vanilla extract.
  6. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet ingredients, alternating with milk until just mixed.
  7. Pour batter over the pecan topping and smooth out the surface.
  8. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean from the center.
  9. Cool for about 5 minutes before inverting onto a serving plate.
