  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp white vinegar
  • 1 1/2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature (for frosting)
  • 1/2 cup full-fat cream cheese, room temperature
  • 1 Tbsp vanilla extract (for frosting)
  • 1 tsp fine salt (for frosting)
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 Tbsp heavy whipping cream, room temperature (for frosting)
  • Electric Green Gel Food Coloring (for decoration)
  • Black Gel Food Coloring (for decoration)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and line two round cake pans.
  2. Whisk together cake flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. In a separate bowl, cream unsalted butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  4. Add eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Then mix in buttermilk, vegetable oil, green gel food coloring, vanilla extract, and vinegar.
  5. Gradually combine dry ingredients with wet mixture until just mixed.
  6. Divide batter between prepared pans and bake for about 28 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to wire racks.
